Are you looking for the perfect gift for someone that loves yoga? As a yoga teacher and yoga practitioner myself, I have some great ideas about what yoga lovers want!

To make your yoga sessions as blissful as they are meant to be, here is a list of 6 must-haves!

1. Yoga Mat

When looking for a must-have gift for yoga lovers, a mat is essential!   When looking for a mat, what is most important to you? Everyone is a bit different in what they are looking for in a mat. As a yoga instructor for 11 years and a yoga practitioner for 17 years, I suggest you consider these five things: material, weight, cushion, grip, price.

Material – I personally want a mat that is eco-friendly, good for the environment and for the practitioner.

Weight – The mat needs to be lightweight enough to take with me wherever I go, but also durable.

Cushion – I am not a fan of the super-thin mats, some cushion feels good to me. However, I don’t want a mat that is so thick I am tripping over it, or it hinders my balance poses.

Grip is important – I have had some mats in the past that my feet/hands would not stay in place. I want to stay put, on a mat with enough grip.

Price – With all the choices out there I want a reasonably priced mat as well!

With that said, here are 3 mats that I would recommend. I currently use the IUGA mat.

2. Online Yoga Classes

Even if you are a seasoned practitioner or a yoga teacher, having an online subscription to classes is really wonderful! This is a must-have gift for yoga lovers in my opinion! I myself have been teaching and practicing for many years. Having an online subscription gives you the opportunity to benefit from excellent instructors (including yoga therapists) in a variety of styles. I have had a subscription to YogaDownload for over 3 years now and I love it! YogaDownload is a regular part of my day!  Get a special 20% discount on a paid membership with my promo code AMB-5952.

3. Yoga Clothing

I honestly am not one to get all caught up in fashion or the newest styles. I want functionality. When practicing yoga it IS important to wear the right kind of clothes. Baggy sweats/shorts and a t-shirt don’t work for yoga very well.  In downward-facing dog pose, you will find your t-shirt falling over your head!

4. Yoga Blocks

Props support your practice and are necessary for many poses. Some people feel that they should be able to do yoga asana without any props. Props are an important piece of equipment for a yoga practice. You can keep the proper alignment in many poses more easily and safely using blocks. I recommend 2 blocks for each person.

5. Yoga Strap

You can get deeper into some stretches using a yoga strap. It is a must-have prop to get the most out of your practice. It will also help you try some more challenging poses as you are ready to give them a try!

6. Blanket

Honestly, not just any old blanket will do. You need a firm blanket that is not too cushy and will stay in place! This blanket is my absolute favorite to use to support my yoga practice:

I use the blanket for multiple poses, such as fire log pose, sukasana, pigeon pose, savasana, supported fish pose, and many more. I also use it to wrap up in during seated meditation! A necessary prop for your yoga practice!

In addition to the must-have items above, the following items just add to the experience and are highly recommended! I use them all in my yoga practice.

Diffuser and Essential Oils

Diffusing essential oils during your practice can raise your vibration even more than the practice itself! Plus provide tantalizing scents for your enjoyment! The benefits of essential oils are widespread and backed by research.

Find several high-quality essential oils in my post Autumn Essential Oil Diffuser Blends.

Eye Pillow

Savasana with a blanket, bolster, and a lavender-scented eye pillow is the BEST!

Bolster

A bolster is a must-have for practicing restorative yoga and is an excellent addition to savasana. I recommend doing savasana at the end of every practice, no matter how long! While lying on your back is savasana, place the bolster under your knees to take the pressure off the low back, ahhhhh.

Zafu

A zafu is used for seated meditation and pranayama. I prefer the zafus filled with buckwheat filling. This helps the body comfortably adjust during extended periods of sitting.

Books for Yoga Enthusiasts

Here are a few books I recommend for the serious yoga enthusiast. For someone that is interested in delving into more than just yoga asana (poses). Yoga is a practice of eight “limbs.” The physical poses or “asana,” is just one of the limbs! These are just a few of the books I have read that are on my shelf.

I hope I have helped you to find the perfect gift for a yoga lover you know! Perhaps one of these gifts will be a gift from Santa (for you!!).
