Overindulge for the holidays? Did you eat things you don’t normally eat, or more of them? It seems every holiday comes with its special treats and it’s easy to have too much of a “good” thing!
Can yoga really help detoxify the body?
The answer to this question is a resounding “Yes!” Our bodies eliminate toxins and waste through the circulatory, digestive, and lymphatic systems. Through the practice of yoga, we can assist the body in removing impurities and facilitate the flow of freshly oxygenated blood to our internal organs.

Which poses are best for detoxifying the body?
Twisting poses are the most beneficial for detoxifying the body. Many of our internal organs are sac-like organs that benefit from the squeezing action and massage that they receive when we perform twisting poses.

Toxins and waste are expelled when the organ is compressed in a twist. Then when the pose is released, nutrient-rich, freshly oxygenated blood can flow into the organ. The circulation of blood is also improved.
Backbend and Forward Bend poses are also beneficial in the detoxification process. Both backbends and forward bends create pressure on the abdomen which will stimulate digestion and aid in the elimination of waste. Standing forward bends reverse the pull of gravity and will circulate fresh blood to the head and drain lymph nodes.
Inversion poses stimulate the circulatory and lymphatic systems, which assist in detoxifying the body. Inversions also assist in improving digestion and elimination.

November 29, 2018 8:27 amFor sure I have 2 favorites. #3 the cobra pose looks like such an awesome stretch for my back. I’m seriously going to do this pose daily for a week just to soak up all those benefits. The second pose I really like is #5 the revolved abdomen pose it seems like it’s not only good for my back and abs but I can totally see myself breathing into the pose and flowing into a calm relaxed state of being. I’d even say it looks soothing.
Thank you for sharing these Julie. I’ve been wanting to start yoga practice for a few months now but I had no idea where to start as I’m a total newbie. However your ability to make it all so simple is amazing and I will starting with these poses as they have called to me.
I look forward to learning much more from you as you share your knowledge and wisdom with us.
