No more harmful chemicals!!! I don’t know about you, but I am sick and tired of all the toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis. Pesticides on our food to harmful chemicals in the products we use to clean our bodies and our homes.
The consequences of this toxin overload can have serious consequences, including skin conditions and other terrible diseases/disorders. So, I am constantly in search of natural, non-toxic recipes for use in my home and by my loved ones. Gradually, I am replacing toxic products in our home. My kitchen has become my laboratory!!
I have been dabbling in making some of my own household cleaners and body care products for the past few years. I am committed to significantly decreasing the use of chemicals and using natural, organic options that won’t make us sick or cause unnecessary discomfort (think eczema).
Here is a recipe that I have adapted from several other recipes I have found on the web, that I really like. Bonus – it’s easy to make! In this recipe, I used Sweet Almond Oil, but you can use a different oil based on your skin type. I chose Sweet Almond Oil because it works for many different skin types. Check out oneessentialcommunity.com. She has fabulous charts that show which oils are best for different skin types.
Cleansing with raw, organic honey is new to me. In my quest for natural products, I researched the many benefits of cleansing with honey. Here are some of the benefits:
- removes dirt and impurities without stripping the skin of natural oils
- honey has natural antibiotic and probiotic properties which helps prevent breakouts
- it’s gentle and nurturing to the skin, making it ideal for sensitive skin, rosacea, and eczema
- works well with all skin types
- speeds healing of wounds, cuts, and burns
Lemon essential oil has antifungal and antiviral properties. Keep “Athlete’s foot” at bay! The clean, fresh scent is invigorating. I chose to add the Orange Essential Oil for it’s fresh, citrusy, sweet scent which complements the Lemon so well.
I originally made this body wash for my daughter, who will soon be off to college. Orange oil is one of her favorites and I thought the antiviral properties of Lemon might help keep her feet healthy in those community dormitory showers! But once I tried it, it has become a favorite of mine. I will have to make another batch!
All Natural Honey Orange Lemon Body Wash
Ingredients
- 1/3 C. Raw Honey
- 1/3 C. Unscented Castile Soap
- 1/3 C. Sweet Almond Oil
- 20-25 drops Orange Essential Oil
- 20-25 drops Lemon Essential Oil
- 16-ounce plastic pump dispenser bottle
Stir the first 3 ingredients together in a bowl until well combined. Add the essential oils and stir. Use a funnel to pour the mixture into the plastic bottle. The ingredients will separate. Shake gently prior to use.

2019 Update: I have made this body wash multiple times and each time I use different essential oils! Here are a few other essential oil combinations to substitute for the Orange and Lemon oils.
- 20 drops each Lavender and Elemi – both known to be excellent for skin repair
- 20 drops each Lavender and Orange – Lavender is relaxing and calming and so much more!
- 20 drops each Lavender and Clary Sage – helpful for balancing hormones
What are your favorite oil combinations?
